What is Medicare Advantage?
Medicare Advantage plans are alternatives to Original Medicare and Medigap and are sometimes referred to as Part C. When you join one of these plans, Medicare will pay a set monthly amount for your care directly to the Advantage plan. That Advantage plan will then take on all of your medical risk and provide all of your Part A and Part B healthcare services.
Most Advantage plans have an HMO or PPO network of doctors and combine your Part A, Part B, and usually Part D coverage into one plan. To take part in an Advantage plan, you must continue to pay your Part B premium and live in the plan’s service area.
What Does Medicare Advantage Cover?
Medicare Advantage plans cover the same things that are covered under Parts A and B (and usually D). The difference is that instead of paying deductibles and a 20% coinsurance on Part B services (like doctor’s visits and other outpatient care), you’ll use your plan’s local network of providers and make copayments when you receive those services. Each plan sets its own cost-sharing guidelines.

What’s the Difference Between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplemental?
The main difference between Medicare Advantage plans and Medigap plans is that Advantage plans pay instead of Medicare, while Medigap plans pay after Medicare.
